Full Time Position - Starting July, 2016

Position Description: In the summer of 2016 we will open a new pop up Jewish life center in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill in Brownstone Brooklyn and we will start child care and beginning Jewish families programming in our site in Windsor Terrace in Brownstone Brooklyn. The goal is to engage Jewish and interfaith unaffiliated families with young children in the Fort Greene and Clinton Hill sections of Brooklyn by offering innovative and welcoming Jewish Family Life and Parenting programming. The goal is to create an entry portal into Jewish life by fostering a strong connection to Jewish identity and by demonstrating that Jewish experiences can transcend the physical boundaries of established institutions. The ultimate goal is to encourage families to foster a sense of ownership in the creation of their own Jewish community. This is ideal for self starter and there will be no assistant to make phone calls or to create Excel spreadsheets.

Audience: To work with Jewish and interfaith beginning families with children 0 to 5 who reside in these Brownstone Brooklyn neighborhoods. To start a pop up center that runs weekly programs in Fort Greene and Clinton and to work out of Kings Bay Y's Windsor Terrace office with parents with young children by organizing weekly programs, Jewish holiday celebrations, events while creating dynamic, transformative, and engaging Jewish programing that caters mostly to people mostly disengaged from Jewish life.

Your responsibilities would include the following:

  • Connect and Recruit kids and families in person and via social media and marketing

  • Attend programs, follow up with individuals and to communicate with colleagues to ensure that there is a holistic approach to engagement.

  • Understand budgeting and be proactive on social media.

  • Supervise some staff and organize events.

  • Build and cultivate relationships and be comfortable with fundraising.

  • Community outreach and engagement with emphasis on early childhood

  • Responsible for Fundraising

A successful candidate will:

Be a pluralistic, outgoing, dynamic educator with a salesperson's mentality enjoy meeting new people, getting to: know children, and speak to large groups and engage one on one. Be passionate about Jewish life, love kids be comfortable with social media, databases, and online communication tools. Have cultural competency skills and be welcoming to a wide diversity of families, many interfaith be an informal educator rather than a school teacher ( camp experience helps). Build visibility and reputation for our early childhood Jewish programs work in different neighborhoods in Brownstone Brooklyn with some local commute articulate the relevance of Jewish values and ideals to people uninspired by their previous interactions with the Jewish community Customer-service oriented.


BA from an accredited institution. Master's is preferred but not required ( Early childhood preferred)
Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively

Previous experience in successful engagement of parents and young children.

Strong Jewish identity as opposed to Jewish religious observance. Flexible work style with the ability to work under tight deadlines

Exceptionally organized and detail oriented with a strong professional demeanor Strong written and verbal communication skills Training in education and child development (preferred)

Self-starter with ability to work effectively with limited supervision.

Hours and compensation:

It's a full time position with flexible hours, with one Saturday or Sunday commitment on a bi-monthly basis; occasional evening hours.
