Jessica Chait, Chief of Staff to UJA Chief Executive Officer Eric Goldstein, meets with the Bronfman Philanthropy Fellowship

The third installment in the Bronfman Philanthropy Fellowship (BPF) featured Jessica Chait, the Chief of Staff to Eric Goldstein, the Chief Executive Officer of the UJA Federation of New York. Representatives from Hillel NYU and Shalhevet: Orthodox Judaism at NYU were also in attendance at the meeting.

Chait touched upon her background and how she became interested in the world of philanthropy. She then explained how the UJA Federation of New York functions as an organization. The approximately $200 million UJA raises annually is allocated to a variety of different places. One example, which was pertinent to those in attendance, includes area Hillels that do not have as much of a financial or supporter base.

A challenge that Chait mentioned is enabling donors to feel connected to the places the money is being allocated to, not just the foundation itself. Many donors are not always aware of the various non-profits to donate to, and which organizations necessitate funding. An interesting tidbit which the vast majority of NYU students may not know, is that UJA helps to significantly fund numerous Bronfman Center activities, from staff operations to building maintenance to the new Global Center.

The BPF would like to say thank you and wish Jenni Peterson a hearty congratulations and much success on her new job with alumni relations for NYU. Jenni was an integral part in helping the BPF launch and her guidance and presence will be missed.

BPF will resume after the Winter Break and stay tuned for BPF’s inaugural Shabbat Dinner Campaign.
